You’ve heard the saying, “time is money”.
But have you ever really stopped and thought what that REALLY meant.

Think about this. We all have 1,440 minutes every day.  Let me repeat that: We ALL have 1,400 minutes every day.  That means the soccer mom, real-estate mogul, the plumber, the teacher, the internet marketer, the hotel exec, the house cleaner, and the restaurant owner ALL have the same amount of time.

So, here’s the question:  How is it that if we ALL have the same amount of time in the day, why can some people accomplish 10x more activities and  get 10x more results then the next person??

You might be saying , “Scott, you don’t know my life.  I have kids, I work out, I do the laundry,  I make dinner, I fly around the country for my job, I take the kids to practice, etc —  I cannot seem to fit anything else into my life!”

As someone who consults business owners and  individuals on how to get more results in their life and business, I have studied this for a while.
I’ve even recently bought some “goal setting” work books so that this year is much more productive.  I’ve given presentations, attended seminars, webinars, and even started reading books on the subject.

I find it fascinating that some high achievers accomplish alot more most of us do.  The question is HOW do they do it?

Answer:  Being “Productive on Purpose”

Here’s 6 Tips on How to be More Productive on Purpose

1. Synchronize all calendars

If you have a calendar on your PC, a wall calendar, a daily planner, and a handheld device, all of them must say the same thing. Too many planners and calendars obviously may lead to unneeded confusion. Therefore, attempt to get by with just one, or, if that isn’t possible, be certain that all of them are synchronized.

2. Every project requires an action plan

There is always a most efficient series of steps for each project. To save effort and time, we must identify what that series is and follow it. Prior to starting any project, attempt to identify this series and jot it down.

3. Schedule the most vital activities first.

If you first deal with your most critical tasks first, it’ll be easier to discover time for less important tasks.
If you permit yourself to become sidetracked on busywork or unimportant tasks, odds are you never will get to the things that really matter.

4.  Stop Being a Slave to Email

What’s the FIRST thing you do when you get into the office?  I’ll be the answer is turn computer on and check email.
Am I right?
Most people want to hurry up and turn their computer on to see if anyone emailed them.
And if they did email, then they start playing “email tag” with these people for the next 2  hours.

What’s the problem with that?

You are at the beck and whim of EVERYONE who emails you.  You are playing defense, rather than offense. You want to take control back in your day?
Then you have to learn to set “email limits”.  My suggestion is to only check email twice per day.
In the morning from, say 9-10, and then in the afternoon, let’s say 3-4pm.

5. Track your time

Throughout the day, I use an old fashioned stop watch.
Twice, I do something called, “60 minute JAM session”.
I got this idea from super achiever, and publisher of Success Magazine, Darren Hardy.  This can revolutionize your day.  Simply place the stop watch next to you at your desk.  For the next (60) minutes, tell your colleagues, your friends, wife/kids/husband you are NOT to be bothered. You’re about to get into a JAM session!
Once you click that start button on your stop watch, you put your head down and focus  and take action on that ONE huge project you must get done….

6. Schedule less

Warren Buffet has been quoted saying, “For every 100 great opportunities that are brought to me, I say no 99 times.”  We feel that if we say yes to people, then our calendars will look filled up and that means that we’re busy.  Remember, busy doesn’t equal success.
Learn to say “no” more times to people who want your time and stay focused on your big goals.

Next Steps…

Remember, learning to be “productive on purpose” isn’t a habit that you’re going to learn overnight.  It takes time. Your goal is to be efficient with your day, NOT busy!
When your head hits the pillow at night, and you look back over your day, you want to be excited over the things you’ve created, rather than have to worry about a checklist that you finished!
