As I write this, we are finishing up another Thanksgiving holiday here in the United States.
Besides stuffing our faces with amazing food, Thanksgiving is a time of giving thanks for all your grateful for, and spending quality time with your loved ones.
I love the Thanksgiving holiday simply for the fact that it give us a time to truly reflect
on what we’re thankful for in our lives, and it reminds us to stop, smell the proverbial roses,
and reach out to friends/family and tell them how much they mean to you.

When it comes to being successful in business, we need to take a page out of the Thanksgiving playbook.
As business owners, entrepreneurs, and busy corporate execs, we are so busy climbing up our Success Mountain, we sometimes forget the power of gratitude and being grateful for what we have.
We hear things like, “what have you done for me lately”, “you are only as good as your last sale”,
“keep your eye on the prize”.   Don’t get me wrong,  I’m a huge believer in that if you want to continue to stay relevant and blaze new trails, you must be better today than you were yesterday.
You must continue to grow yourself, get outside of your comfort zone, and continue to set loftier and more daring goals.

But here’s where alot of fast charging, success minded, goal oriented individuals miss the boat (and so did I for many years)…  When you’re so focused on making more money, driving a fancier car, taking exotic trips,
and living in a bigger home, you miss the essence of life, true life.
If you want to live a fulfilled, purpose-filled life, you must embrace and practice the Power of Gratitude.

I’ve outlined two ways in which you can practice the power of gratitude in your daily life:

Give  Thanks Daily

How exactly do you practice the power of gratitude?
Every night, as you lay in bed, spend 5 minutes thanking God for ALL the wonderful things that happened to you today.  Did someone at work compliment your new suit? …give thanks to that person.
Were you able to finally get in touch with that prospect? ….give thanks for that.
Did your child get an A on his/her test?….give thanks to that.
When you train your mind to start thinking about the wonderful things that happened to you today, your brain starts to look for more great things to bring to you.  This exercise should take 5-10 minutes.
If you really want to fast track this process, do this in the morning also, before you get out of bed.

Volunteer Your Time

For the past 5 years, my wife and I volunteer at an organization in our home town that caters to the elderly.
These folks don’t have alot of money, most of them are widowed, and most of these elderly folks are very lonely. Every month, and every Holiday, my wife and I drop off meals to these folks, and sit and talk with them for about an hour.
Every time we finish delivering these meals, we realize how grateful we are, and in turn,
just how important it is to give back to someone of lessor means.
For alot of these elderly folks, we are the only people they see and talk to
all month long.
Most of them don’t even care about the meals, they simply want someone to talk to.  I would suggest, if you don’t already volunteer, do so immediately.
It’s been proven that when you give back your time to someone in need, dopamine gets released in the brain, giving you that “warm and fuzzy, feel good feeling”.

Volunteering is one of the best ways  to make you “fulfilled” and on purpose in your life.
No money, fancy car, or big house will give you the type of feeling you’ll get after you help someone in need!

Next Steps….

As you read this article, my goal for you is to take time out of your day, and focus on the things that you’re grateful for.  The Law of Attraction says that what you put out/think about, comes back to you.
Thus, the more you focus on the things, people, experiences that you ALREADY have in your life,  the more of these things you’ll obtain.

Most people make the mistake of focusing on things they DON’T have.
And guess what they attract…More of the things they don’t have…Crazy, right??
As you’re pursuing your dreams, and climbing up your success mountain, don’t
forget to appreciate and give gratitude for everything and everyone in your life.
