Where’s the strangest place you’ve gotten an Ah-Ha moment?
Was it in the shower, while driving?
Maybe it was when you were meditating, or working out in the gym.
The best part about Ah-Ha moments is that they seem to come when you least expect it.
I was recently visiting family in Florida over the holidays.
The beauty about visiting family in Florida over the holidays is that when the
majority of the country is in a tundra, Florida is normally very balmy and sunny.
This particular trip, Southwest Florida was particularly nice.
Every day was 80 degrees and sunny.
My wife and I were fortunate enough to have some family friends ask if we’d like
to go fishing about 25 miles off the Gulf of Mexico…Of course, we said absolutely.
Before you start wondering, what the heck am I reading….Stay with me
This post is not about fishing, and it’s not about sunny Florida.
It’s about my Ah-Ha moment, and how it applies to me, you, and everyone else who’s in business.
As we were making our way out 25 miles to the Gulf, going about 35 mph, I asked “Doug”,
what that thing was in the middle of the dash board, next to the steering wheel.
He mentioned it was the Sonar/GPS system.
Then he proceeded to show me that all he has to do is plug in coordinates on where he wants the boat to end up, and the boat goes straight there…
“Doug” simply had to follow this yellow line from where we started to where we needed to go.
It was like playing a video game. It was the coolest thing…
I thought to myself, “A 7 year old kid could follow this line and get us to our destination!!”
My Ah-Ha Moment
I realized at THAT moment that this GPS system on this boat was EXACTLY like running a business.
Most people never use their GPS.
They never plug in the coordinates on where they want to take their business and their life.
Why do you think that is? Are they lazy? Maybe they don’t know how to use their GPS.
Perhaps they have a GPS, but only use it for a few months per year…
The reality is, our minds are like heat seeking missiles.
If you tell your mind WHAT you want to go after, it WILL find a way to hit the target.
But, if you cloud your mind with pessimism, lack, limitation, complaining, watching TV all the time, and WISHING that you had more time, money, opportunity, etc
….then that’s EXACTLY what you’re mind will focus on: more lack and limitation.
Recently, I invested in a goal setting workbook from Darren Hardy (Success Magazine)
Was it expensive? Yes
Has it been worth it? Absolutely
Why did I invest in this?
I knew if I wanted to take my business and life to the next level, I needed a GPS.
It wasn’t good enough any more to simply write down a few goals on a piece of paper,
then stick them in a drawer and look at them twice per year.
I knew I needed a system, and a map in place so I can resort to it on weekly basis
…and it’s made a HUGE difference in my business
My Challenge to You
How will you make this year better than last year?
Will you let life control you, or will you start creating your reality and step into your greatness?
Because you’re reading this, I’m assuming that you’re ready to crush it this year.
If so, make sure to develop your system, get a GPS, hire a coach, attend that seminar.
Don’t wait to do it tomorrow.
Do it today.
Make this year your best ever!!!

Loved your Ah-Ha story Scott! You should frame the fish photo too — great catch! 😉
Yours truly,
Christine
Thanks Coxy…
I really like the idea of our minds being heat seeking missile’s and that they will go after whatever we think about. This year is the year of visioning, growing and, being very deliberate about what I can do with my business. To that end, I have created a vision board for my personal life that will move into business as well. Happy new year!
Thanks Arlene. I like that you created a vision board. The key is to stay consistent with it
Scott,
Nice catch and even better points in your ah-ha moment. I love the challenge you put out here. Good read. Thanks for sharing.
Chad
Thanks Chad…It’s in the “challenge” or getting out of our comfort zone that we grow…
